What is a mouse scroll test?
A scroll test measures how fast you can spin your mouse wheel, counted in scroll ticks per second over a 5-second window. It's also a quick way to check whether your scroll wheel is registering every notch or skipping.
How to scroll faster
- Use the side of your index finger and flick the wheel rapidly.
- A free-spinning wheel (smooth scroll) racks up more ticks than a notched one.
- Some gaming mice let you unlock the wheel for faster spins.
Checking a broken scroll wheel
If the counter jumps unevenly or stops while you're still scrolling, your wheel encoder may be worn. Try the mouse tester to verify all buttons too.
FAQ
Why doesn't it count?
Make sure your cursor is over the purple box, then scroll. Trackpad two-finger scrolling also works.
What's a good scroll speed?
It varies by mouse, but 15–30 ticks/sec is typical for a notched wheel; free-spin wheels go much higher.
